It is great to get an update about your family. Since you moved out of Bethany's ward, I never see or hear a thing about you anymore. Your children are beautiful, and you and Christian have done a wonderful job with them.

Blaine was one of the finest teachers I ever had the honor to work with. When I started teaching at Orchard in 1980, he was already there, helping kids and helping new teachers like me. He was a teacher's teacher. I was proud to be his friend.

Daniel Sateki Lao, beloved husband and loving father, passed away peacefully in his sleep December 9, 2003 at home with his family.

He was born August 8, 1973 at the home of his Grandpa and Grandma Whitlock to Sione Latu Lao and Shanna Whitlock Blackburn. He married Karen Christine Aalto on August 16, 1997. They have two beautiful daughters, Keilani Marie and Brooklyn Elizabeth.

Daniel was a great man who loved many things. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an honorable mission in Tucson, Arizona. He was an avid BYU fan, a football season ticket-holder for the past few years. Daniel was very proud of his Tongan heritage and embraced every chance he had to learn about the culture. He enjoyed politics, he was the Event Coordinator for the Hola campaign, and more recently supported Jon Huntsman for Governor. Daniel was a passionate man and was able to express himself through writing and poetry. He was most importantly a family man. He found a best friend and lover in Karen as they shared a great appreciation for travel, movies and music. Together, they worked hard to provide many things for their daughters, Lani and Brookie. He will be greatly missed by his wife and daughters.

Daniel is also survived by many other family members and friends, parents Sione Latu and Lynda Lao, Lorenzo and Shanna Blackburn; grandparents Sateki and Kulaea Lao and Homer C. Whitlock; sisters Mele Pepa (Taniela), Ruby Aneo (Jonathan), Melanie Halatokoua (Sifa), Kaati Lao, Lileane Lao, Cassi Blackburn; brothers, Johnny, Donnie and Maati Lao, Rick Whitlock and Zach Blackburn; 10 nieces and nephews; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be missed by his friends and co-workers at Verizon Wireless. He touched the lives of his close friends, Bill Lewis, Edison and Will Tam, and Kala Halatokoua. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Ruby Denison Whitlock, cousin Akesa Lao and mother-in-law Christine Maria Aalto.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, Dec. 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 23rd Ward, 4932 So. 3200 W. A family viewing will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13th from 5 to 7 p.m. Public Viewing will be held Sunday, 6-10 p.m. both at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan.

Interment to follow services at Redwood Memorial Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Daniel's name to the Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.

Here is a link to a memorial I created for Melisa. She was one of the most dear friends I had in High School and I still miss her to this day. He easy smile and every expanding shoulders to cry on - she was amazing. Once she gave birth to her daughter, her work on this earth was finished, although sometimes I wonder about that. She still had a lot more to help guide us all through. And, maybe, she still is doing just that, just out of sight.

My Granddaughter, Tasia, who is 13 is holding a garage-bake sale this saturday, June 27 in behalf of your wife. She has been working on her personal progress and after seeing your article in the paper in May she wanted to do something to help. I tried to get her to write to you, but she thought it would impose. I think it would be important to know, in case people ask who are there to donate or help how your wife is doing. Could we get an update on your wifes condition??

I can be reached at Lindi.Mehr@imail.org.

After the garage sale she will deposit all the proceeds into your account at Deseret First.

Thank you. Lindi

Lori was the type of friend I try to be. She was always herself, and never tried to be anything but what she was. She was the one you called when you wanted to know about one of our other childhood friends - she always seemed to keep in touch with everyone. She had a lot of difficulty in her life, from having her Dad die when she was little, to having diabetes, to a short marriage that produced her love of life daughter Meghan. She had bad health off and on once her daughter was born, and she seemed to have a knack for getting into car accidents. She died from complications with her diabetes, and left a HUGE whole in the hearts of many, many people. She has been dead since September 2005 and is still missed. - Sheila Scow Gressmen

The thing that is so ironic about where her Organs went is Nicia loved Crafts and always wanted to live by the Ocean. so through all these people she is now. And we all know how Indepentant she really was. She loved children and her family was the most important thing in her life. she loved to sew and she did go to collage for awhile before her son was born for costume design. thank you for taking the time to print this and keep her memory alive. remember to be a doner on your drivers licence.

I worked at Reams with Jason. He was always making me laugh, he was so funny. Years later after not talking to him I was dating a guy that was good friends with him and his wife. It was fun to hang out with him again. I was so sad to hear of his passing.

Brandon, thank you so much for remembering Ann and for your kind comments. Stormy, my dear Stormy, Annie loved you very much and you were such a good friend to her. You helped her in so many ways to cope with her grief and her concerns and I will always love you for that.
Brandon, your family has been in my prayers ever since I learned about your wife's illness. I hope you are all doing okay. Take care.
